I've been having IE8 problems. Did a System Restore and got it back but the
tool bar is crazy.
For instance, I don't have Favorites anymore.

Can someone help?

Thanks,
Doug

Is Comcast freebie Norton Security Suite installed and was the previous
Comcast freebie McAfee Security Center installed before that?

Has another Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer?

Did a Norton or McAfee free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when you
bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)

Yes. Remove IE8 ad use IE7 or use a different browser since IE8 is
known to have way too many issues on WXP.

As well as I remember I can say NO to each of your questions.

There are very few people that have issues with IE8 on XP, and most of
those are related to a specific Website that isn't geared up for IE8 yet.

If you still want to remove it:

How do I uninstall or remove Internet Explorer 8?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700

I would have a look here and perhaps reinstalling will solve your issues.

Remove IE8 and restart twice.

How do I uninstall or remove Internet Explorer 8?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700

Download IE8 to your Desktop. Do not use Windows or Microsoft Updates.

Internet Explorer 8 download:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=341c2ad5-8c3d-4347-8c03-08cdecd8852b

Restart your computer. With no other programs running, disable your
anti-virus program and any spyware or spam programs you may have. If you
are running a third party firewall, disable it and enable the Windows
firewall.

Now install IE8 from the Desktop. When you're done, restart your computer
twice and then make sure your disabled programs are running again.

Thanks Bruce,
I tried to download IE8 as you suggested but it didn't download - even after
clicking the "click here if download doesn't start in 30 seconds."

Any way to get around this?

How about clickong on Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs then
scroll through the list and find Internet Explorer 8 and click on it
then click on uninstall. That should remove IE8 and revert you back to
the last version of IE that was installed on your PC.

I don't know. I just tried it myself (choosing Save) and the download
started promptly. Never even saw a: "click here if download doesn't start
in 30 seconds" warning.

Did you remove IE8 and reboot already? Reboot and try again.

No idea. Google only shows that error when removing IE. If you don't get

I'll try that.
Thank you Bruce for your help.
You've helped me a few times over the years - of course you don't recognize
my name - and I appreciate the time you've spent with my problems.

Doug

I have seen you, Doug. Unfortunately, with MS migrating from newsgroups to
forums, the newsgroups have slowed down considerably. Someone you
recognize will probably see this post and reply, but since we are back and
forth, and the forums take much longer to answer, we aren't in the
newsgroups as much as before.

Just a few weeks ago I wouldn't have even considered answering your post
as someone with more expertise in this area would have already done so.

Please answer *all of the following diagnostic questions* by number in your
next reply (no need to quote this post):

1. Is the computer currently fully patched at Windows Update?

2. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running
in the background when you installed IE8 and/or SP3?

3. Which was installed first, IE8 or SP3 (or IE7)?
