"insert file as printout" is gray in OneNote. Why?

I can't get OneNote to import any files. The option is always grayed out. Any
ideas?

I am having this issue too. I am using Office 2007. I have tried the free 15
minute online support and they weren't able to resolve the issue in time...

Let me ask you too:
Which OS?
Is it a 64-bit version?

In addition:
Which version of OneNote?

I have One Note 2007 (12.06415.1000) SP 2 MSO (12.0.6425.1000) on a computer
with Window 7 64 bit and am having the same problem with File as Printout in
the Insert menu grayed out.

Thanks for telling us the OS-Version.
This makes things clear.

Inserting a printout is based on the "Send to OneNote"-printer.
And for OneNote there is no 64-bit printer.
For the reasons pls see DavidRasmussen's article "OneNote 64 bit print
driver"
http://blogs.msdn.com/david_rasmussen/archive/2008/04/21/onenote-64-bit-print-driver.aspx

The author developed a workaround.
Pls see: David Rasmussen "OneNote Print Driver – A 64 Bit Solution"
http://blogs.msdn.com/david_rasmuss.../onenote-print-driver-a-64-bit-solution.aspx-

As ON2010 has a 64-bit printer you might instead make the move to the
new version.
Although it's still Beta it can be used for "production".
Download the Office 2010 Beta from the MS-website and install OneNote
(you may leave out the rest).
ON2010 has gained a lot of pretty fine features. I have been using the
"Technology Preview" version since last July. IMO it would be the better
alternative to start with the Beta right now.

Thank you Rainald. I've been wanting a peek at 2010 and this will get me
motivated. I'll download the beta. I also have an old XP 32 bit computer I
can put 2007 on.

You won't need ON2007 anymore ;-)
What for? <bg>

BTW: Today rumours were spread around that the RTM/Final of Office 2010
might appear in *March* already! [1]
