Inline AutoComplete is Broken

Don't tell me "By Design" - it is just plain broken.

Removing it as an option makes no sense.
I don't care about the "smart address bar" - that is useless.

You took away the one feature I really liked.
Excuse me while I go download Chrome and Firefox.

Seriously - this is beyone annoying.

Some time in the not too distant future.... on a Windows 10 handheld MFPC.

"HAL has detected that you are feeling frustrated."

"Please go and fix yourself a nice cup of ja. Everything will be alright by
the time you return."

Things work just fine without the keyboard nut.

Yep, by design. Not designed by you. Your needs were irrelevant. You are
not a corporation that purchases hundreds or thousands of licenses from
Microsoft for them to hear any of your Requests for Enhancement (which are
not seen using this venue for your ranting).

Someone is pointing a gun at your head and forced you to switch from IE7 to
IE8? Is your post a cry for help and you want us to call the cops for you?
Alas, you posted using the webnews-for-dummies interface to Usenet so we
don't know where to tell the cops to find you. Make a cup of hot coffee and
wait until they get close to throw it in their face and then run!

Ooh, a user threatening other users that they're going to switch to a
different web browser. We just quaking in our boots at your threat. Yes,
this user community is so frightened that you might switch (despite that we
know it is a vacuous threat in most cases). Yeah, like nobody here uses
more than one web browser, uh huh.

You haven't a clue of what is Usenet. You also think the
webnews-for-dummies interface provided by Microsoft is a forum and that
anyone at Microsoft is monitoring the posts here.

What is Usenet:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsgroups
http://www.masonicinfo.com/newsgroups.htm
http://www.mcfedries.com/Ramblings/usenet-primer.asp

When using a webnews-for-dummies interface, like Microsoft's Communities or
Google Groups or a forum-to-Usenet proxy, those are gateways to Usenet.
Despite the appearance of a forum, you are participating in a newsgroup
(Usenet).

Well, you could drop $5 million in Microsoft's pocket to have a special team
assembled that writes a version of IE that satisfies all your special needs,
or gather a development team of your own to write your own web browser.

A suggestion is not a question. So you don't want help on this issue.
Bye.

In what way?

The only significant difference that I can see is that we can't use
shell variables to start file path expressions any more.
You can still use AutoComplete in the Address bar to complete
file paths by starting with a drive designator (e.g. C:/) however.

I disagree. Being able to do actual "searches" in History instead
of those ridiculous first letter matches of domain name is a great
improvement. Of course you have to run Windows Search to get
that feature but you don't have to use Windows Search for anything
else if you don't want to.
