IE8 Won't start correctly

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate and after a Windows Update processed
an update much of what was on the computer was not running right,
programs wouldn't start, data files could not be found etc.. I ran
the system restore and everything was back as it was and working
fine... except, you guessed it... Internet Explore 8. The program
does start okay but it continuously says "Connecting" on the first tab
and nothing ever comes up. After a while it will say "Not Responding"
on the title bar next to the Windows Internet Explorer name. There is
a good internet connection and Firefox has no problem. I logged on to
Microsoft's web site to try and download and reinstall IE8 but I only
get a message saying that IE8 came loaded with Windows 7 and there is
no need to download it. I saw no option to override this.

Connecting means that the machine is looking for the Website. Not Responding
means that it didn't find it.

The problem can be that your Network Connection got balled up -- perhaps the
driver is corrupted, or something along that line -- or the Website that
serves as your Home Page is broken. Go to your Address Bar and input a
different Web address -- if your homepage is MSN.com, then try entering
Yahoo.com -- and see if a different site works.

Since FireFox works, then you may need to change settings in the Internet
Options section of the Tool Menu of IE.

I cannot do anything in IE as it is "busy" looking for the web page
(ANY web page). I have tried clicking on various favorites all with
the same result. I may have given the wrong impression with the "not
responding" message. IE will have the "connecting" message on the tab
forever, the only time the "not responding" message appears is when I
click on something (anything). It is not saying that IE cannot find
the page, it is saying that IE is busy looking and doesn't have time
to react to my input.

Hi Bob! Sorry to hear about your troubles with Windows Update. You
surely are not alone, many have. And I am assuming that you don't make
backups? If not, this is something you might want to start thinking
about. And Windows 7 has a backup program that works fairly well. You
might be able to undo the last Windows Update in Add/Remove. There is
also System Restore that should work as well to get you out of this
mess.

Oddly enough for me on this netbook, there isn't enough free space to do
much updating. Asus sold this netbook and Microsoft gave them OEM
licenses to do so. How nice is that? Anyway what is nice about not
updating, your machine stays very stable. None of those problems of
updates messing up your system anymore.

Those who has great security software are the ones that doesn't have to
worry about OS security updates. I know, many of us have tested this for
many years.

Hi Bob,
You can access Internet Options through the Control Panel, without starting
IE. Try to Reset IE. This will put all IE settings at default, and disable
any add-ons. It's available from the Advanced tab (far right) of Internet
Options.

I suggest to first update your IE8 if your IE8 won't work to uninstall the application and now again install IE8 fresh application..
