IE8 - Tabs Not Connecting

W

I have a Win 7 Pro with IE8. When I right click on a link to "Open in a New
Tab" I get the tab but it never connects.

I have tried this method:

1. Click Start, and then click Run

2. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll in the Open box, and then click OK.

3. Click OK when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for the rest of the DLL files by replacing the
regsvr32 urlmon.dll command in the Open box with the following commands:

regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll

But I can not get regsvr32 mshtml.dll & regsvr32 browseui.dll to register
properly. I have used this method to fix similar IE* problems on other
computers, but this one just will not work.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Assuming Win7 64-bit, see the Answer post by OnyXxL in this thread:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com...r/thread/e312e580-1cbc-496b-8c6b-b69b8535a7bb

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

Using Symantec 10 Enterprise. This is the only AV that has been installed
since Win 7 install.

That seems to be normal now. E.g. both DllRegisterServer and
DllInstall have been removed from mshtml.dll in IE8.

Also, note that ieframe.dll is now more important than shdocvw.dll
and the only way to re-register it seems to be via this syntax:

regsvr32.exe /n /i ieframe.dll

E.g. doing that may restore default filetype and protocol open actions.

However, supposedly now everything will be fixed by using the W7 troubleshooter(s).

Good luck

Thanks - this fixed my problem. I just modified it for X86 instead of X64.

Uninstall it & install, e.g., NOD32, KAV, Avira AntiVir, or Microsoft
Security Essentials and find out!
