IE8 suddenly very slow to close

Win 7 HP 64, IE8.0.7600

Suddenly, and for no particular reason I can determine, my left
clicking to close a web page, or to close IE introduces a delay of
about ten seconds from click to close.

FWIW, loading a site is normal and quite fast.

Browsing Google I see that I'm not alone. But I'm hoping for a
definitive answer.

Hi PT,

Assuming you are talking about the x86 version of IE on Windows 7.

Is this a new computer or have you upgraded from a previous version of
Windows. If so what version and what IE version.

Win7 users can Troubleshoot IE issues from the Start>Control
Panel>Troubleshooting applet. It will guide you through a number of tests to
see if you have incompatible Addons installed.

If the x86 browser is slow to close this usually indicates that something is
calling home and IE will not close until it has finished.

First try the Troubleshooter and if no luck in resolving it, post back and
answer the above questions (our response will depend upon your answers).

Regards.
