IE8 or not

I have IE7, which I am using with Windows XP Professional Version 2002 with
Servic Pack 3. Is that compatible with IE8? What are the upsides to
switching to IE8? Are there any downsides?

I have IE8 installed on an XP Pro and an XP MCE (both with SP3). I have no
troubles with IE8.

No issues here with XP/SP3 and IE8. Upside #1 is a little more security.

Download IE8 to your Desktop or another folder. Do not use Windows or
Microsoft Updates.

Internet Explorer 8 download:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=341c2ad5-8c3d-4347-8c03-08cdecd8852b

Restart your computer. With no other programs running, disable your
anti-virus program and any spyware or spam programs you may have. If you
are running a third party firewall, disable it and enable the Windows
firewall.

Now install IE8 from the Desktop. When you're done, restart your computer
twice and then make sure your disabled programs are running again.

I've installed IE 8 on about a dozen or so XP machines
with mixed results

On about half of them it worked well and I'd call it an improvement

but on the other half it caused some problems so I had to uninstall it

If you do have a problem...
it's easy enough to uninstall

but do not use System Restore

Chances are the computers already had problems & installing IE8 just
revealed them.

Nope

they all worked fine with IE7

and in a few cases it was a fresh install of XP.

In once instance though
I had a problem with IE7 and when I upgraded to IE8
the problem was cleared up

the main issue I wanted to make was that if IE8 needs to be uninstalled
it's not a big deal
but one must not use System Restore
