Thanks Dan.
I had no idea before today that it was possible to modify add-ons like that
(or maybe the option is just easier to find in IE8?!) Anyway, I had no idea
I had so many until I looked, and the reason I said it might take "forever"
is yes, because of the sheer number and that I thought it might be a
combination.
But in the event, it turns out it was easier to fix than it might have been.
Turns out the problem was from a program called "Burn for free", which is
the DVD burning software I use. It's freeware, and quite old (though it
still works well and is easy to use - which suits me), but when you install
it it insists on adding a browser plug-in, which I never knew how to remove
until today. As to your first suggestion, in the lack of less time-consuming
advice, I turned off all add-ons then turned them back on in selected groups
to see if the problem reappeared. I luckily tried this one fairly early on
as I knew it was an old-ish programme. Thankfully I don't need the add-on to
be able to use the programme.
In the process I've also turned off a few other add-ons that I know I don't
need, as to your suggestion. Although, there are a whole load of microsoft
add-ons that I've left on as I have no idea what they do !
Thanks,
Ro
