IE8 Favorites

XPSP3 - just upgraded from ie6 to ie8 to support youtube access.

I used to get a short list of often-used favorites. I believe it was
"personal favorites" in ie6 - can't remember for sure.

Is it possible to get this short list in ie8?

Will it just "happen" after I use ie8 for a while?

I am new to this group, so please don't stomp all over me for not
knowing that this question has been answered a million times before,
as I'm sure it has been asked.

The personal favorites (an MRU, or most-recent-used list) menu function is
gone in IE8. I never used this feature but see comments that it actually
disappeared in IE7. If the list were short then it should be in your
Favorites Bar (previously called the Links Bar). If it were a long list, it
would take me less time to just manually type it in (and probably grab it
from the drop-down cached list for the Address Bar).

I have seen some users claim that it can be returned by importing the
relevant data items under a registry key from an IE6 system. The registry
key is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\AdvancedOptions\BROWSE\FAVINTELLI

You can Google on either of the following search criteria to find articles
that mention how to use the registry to return the functionality (I haven't
tried this to know if it works or not in IE8):

+"personal favorites" "internet explorer" ie8

"Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\BROWSE\FAVINTELLI"

Another solution might be turning on the "new tab" page in IE8, which shows recently visited sites. You can turn this on by going into Tools>Internet Options> General, and under the tabs section, click Settings. Then change "When a new tab opens" to "new tab" page.
