IE8 Doesn't open links

I just did a fresh install of W7 Ultimate and since the change IE8 is acting
strangely. When I click on links in a web page there is no reaction at all. I
turned off the popup blocker and that had no effect. Also when I was trying
to post this message with IE8 it wouldn't let me open the new message box. I
ended up doing it with FireFox. I have other W7 Ultimate installs with IE8
that work just fine. Any ideas?

One more thing. This isn't consistent, some links will open. However the
one's that won't also don't react when I attempt to open them using the "Open
In New Tab" or "Open In New Page" selection. Once again the same links work
fine when using FireFox.

I tried that and it had no effect. Is it possible to reload IE8 somehow. I've
gone to the Windows IE8 page and since I already have IE8 and W7 it doesn't
let me download it. Is it possible to run a repair utility?

Thanks

I am also having this problem, it just started yeserday out of nowhere, links
wont open regardless of pop up blocker settings. I am using opera until I
can figure out the problem.

I also tried his fix, with no success..

I need to know if IE 8 can be fixed or reinstalled, I uninstalled extra tool
bars, and ran super anti spywhere which found a lot of ad tracking, deleted
everything, re booted and still having the problem.

I hope someone has a solution it is very annoying

After 2 1/2 hours on the phone with Shakir in Mumbai he figured it out. He
reloaded all of the DLL's in the registry and we were brand new again. IE
tech support in India was quite helpful.

Thanks

Hi, maybe you can uninstall the IE 8. Download a new one on other computer, and then copy it to your computer and install it.

You can't uninstall IE8 in Windows 7!

Yes same problems here, with IE8 / XP.
Inconsistent browsing or even just
clicking on an address in your favourites.
or even browsing within my hotmail page.

The status bar shows "waiting for" the url,
or "transferring data" from the url, the
progress bar inching up, but it never gets
there. Sometimes using the back/forward
buttons it will get there after a few attempts,
or even copying and pasting the hyperlink
url into the address box will often work.

Almost seems like a comms/DNS problem,
The router lights flash as they normally
would, but nothing happens.

And yes, firefox works fine!
