IE 8 Makes Windows unstable

Once IE 8 was loaded, I started having boot problems and it slowed everything
down to a crawl. IE would freeze the computer and I had to Hard power off.
The compter had to be booted three times to get a good boot. I uninstalled IE
8 and everything is working smoothly.
Is IE 8 incompatable with Windows XP Pro? Or did I get a bad install?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running
in the background when you installed and/or uninstalled IE8?

Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

Have you ever done a Repair Install of Windows?
