Icons gone away

J

John B. Slocomb

Using Windows 7 on an Eee computer.

A day or so ago everything was working normally. Today all the Icons
disappeared.

If logged in as Administrator:
Actually the Icons are still there but they show the name and a blank
black square rather then a graphics. Clicking on the Icon and
selecting Properties->Chang Icon shows all the optional icons and
allows selection of a different icon but the desktop icon never
changes.

If logged in as a user:
Icon names are present and the Icons show the selected graphics with a
black superimposed covering most of the graphics portion.

Anyone got any ideas?

I would.... except that Linux can't run several applications that I
need and your vaunted distro has no replacements for them.

I have the same issue with Windows 7 Professional. It happens periodically.

Right-click on the desktop --> View --> select [Show desktop icons]
That brings the icons back for me.

What a fucking retard you are. Imagine, telling someone to ditch a top
notch OS for some piece of SHIT Ubuntu that nobody wants! You should stop
the drugs.

Cant you even stay out of a legitimate question? You turn people off to
even trying Ubuntu thinking this is the kind of support we would get from
people like you. No need for a reply please.

Dank, everyone has already told him the same thing but he is too stupid
and far too arrogant to comply.
He cares only about himself and his "agenda".

Thanks for that but it didn't solve the problem. The [show icons]
turns them on and off. My problem, which seems peculiar to the Eee
only, is that in Administrator mode the icons are a black rectangle
and in User mode they are the usual graphics icon partially covered by
a black rectangle.

Have double checked four desktops and none of them have the problem
and will have to tinker more with the Eee in a day or so, to try and
solve the problem.

This is one answer I found by googling. Hope it helps you.

Right click on the desktop to bring up the 'properties' or in Win 7, 'Screen
Resolution'. Reduce the resolution from 32 bit to 16... when asked if you
want to keep the change, answer affirmatively.

Go to Start, and Log Out. Log back in the same as usual and repeat the above
steps to gain access to your screen resolution properties. Change the
resolution back to 32 bit and keep the change. Black boxes are now gone.

Dank
