How to reinstall Office with a Medialess License Key?

I have had to reformat my computer due to a malware problem, and now I am
trying to reinstall my copy of Office. This came preloaded onto my computer
and I only have the product key, no discs.

I have followed the link given in the pack
(www.microsoft.com/office/backup), put my key in when required, but get the
following message:

"We are sorry, but we are unable to complete your request. The following
problem(s) exist:
The product key you’ve entered does not appear to be a valid key for this
program. This program is only for Medialess license kits – not standard
retail products.
The product could not be found."

I definitely have the key for a medialess license, so do not understand why
this doesn't work.

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Where did you get the key from?
Are you sure the preinstalled version was not an oem version you purchased
with the PC?

Perhaps the key you are entering is for Windows and not for Office. Where
exactly are you getting this key from? Is it in an email, Invoice or on the
computer case? If it is on the case then please confirm it is not for
Windows because windows keys are on the case while Office keys are on
documentation.

Alternatively, you could buy a backup CD from the same website you have. It
takes between 7 and 14 days to arrive (in UK that I know of).

For the future, always buy software from Amazon or some other stores because
you also get a CD in a box with serial number. OEM software (this is what
you have) is a waste of money because they are not generally transferrable
unless you know something about computers. Religious people don't do this!
