I need to make a few how to video demonstrating how to do fairly basic tasks
in the different versions of powerpoint.

I want to make a slide show, show the shortcut keys etc and record this, and
be able to show the movement of the cursor as people frequently do on the how
to software tutorials on youtube.

I downloaded windows media encoder - now what? Is there some sort of thread
or tutorial on how to make a how to video for software training.

thanks

Actually the encoder isnt editing software for creating video. The encoder
can capture & convert audio/video.For creating video, youre best bet might
be to go to: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/bb190307.aspx
MSDN & its blogs have alot of info as they write the software for WMP

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/howto/articles/screencap.aspx
http://www.clt.astate.edu/~home/docs/WME_Screencap_Guide.pdf

For video walkthroughs of these steps, try

More recently (i.e. since 2001) Expression encoder 3 has started to
get some use for similar tasks : see this article for an example -
