Hello, I finally upgraded my IE6 to 8 thinking, as some people told me, that
it would make my computer faster and easier...well, it is even slower than
it was before! Though it was slow with IE6, NOW, I'm puzzled - it's much
slower! Additionally...

....when I go to another Internet page, a little window appears asking "save"
or "find", I click on "find" and instead of finding the file, it slaps me
with this WINDOWS FILE ASSOCIATION.site!

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx#tab=4

It won't leave my screen when I click on the "Back" button so then I have to
click on the red X to delete but it deletes of course ALL my other open
sites too! What does it do? Is it from MS or Adobe or a fake site??? And
how to get rid of??? It's called: I think it's trying to teach us how to
best use IE8? I clicked on "next" (or some other name, button) to see what
it wanted, and it said how much I was going to enjoy IE8 etc. hence I want
to get rid of it and can't.

Any suggestions please? Thanks so very much! Adela

Hi,
Re: the save or find message... What file type (if any) is mentioned?

Possible fix: Go to http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm download,
unzip and run (merge) the fix for HTM/HTML files.

See the instructions at the top of that page.

Hope this helps,

Thanks so much Don! I went to the link you so kindly sent me, but I'm
afraid to do those steps with the registry etc. It didn't say what type of
file it was, but lately it didn't appear anymore. So I'll keep my fingers
crossed... :)

Ever since I upgraded to IE8 a number of glitches appear which irritate me a
lot. Because I suspected this to happen it is that I didn't upgrade it
until now, and this is why also I'm waiting till the last moment (July 13?)
to install SP3...

Thank you again! Adela

Actually it was quite unwise to first install IE8 and then later SP3.

Hi,
The file association fixes by Doug Knox are quite safe. But if the problem
has disappeared, that's OK.

As Rob suggests in his post, it's a good idea to uninstall IE8 and verify
that IE6 is working OK before installing XP SP3. SP3 for XP has been out for
some time and has been troublefree for most users. You should go ahead and
install it, then reinstall IE8.
