How to create custom URL alias?

Is there a more user friendly way to create custom URL alias than editing
the host file?

For example, if I start IE8 and quickly type "bing" it could result in "ing"
in the address bar because IE8 eats the first key due to slow
initialization. So I would like to create an alias "ing" that maps back to
"bing".

With which OS? On XP you could use either TweakUI or IE5WA's Quick
Search.exe tool. The latter might even still work with later OS. (Worth
a try IMO.)

Good luck
