How to avoid Office Genuine Advantage Notification -tool (KB949810

I bought a new laptop, which had a preinstalled trial copy of MS-Office. I
uninstalled it, since I use OpenOffice. Now Windows update program every day
suggest me to install Office Genuine Advantage Notification -tool (KB949810).
This is frustrating, since I don't have any kind of MS-office.
How can I avoid this? I don't want to install unnecessary programs into my
new computer. Is it possible for Microsoft to somehow check the existence of
any MS-office program (legal or illegal) before offering these kind of
updates? I red in the net that it is not possible to uninstall this OGA after
its installation.

So what should I do? Do I have to choose between:
1) installing a program I don't want
2) every day uncheck the checkbox in Windows Update to not install it
3) Not to use Windows Update?

All of these are something I don't want to do.

Did you also uninstall the Activation Assistant?
Run MS Update manually, modify the settings to ignore this update

Thanks for quick response!

How can I check, if I have uninstalled Activation Assistant? At least I
couldn't find it at Control Panel's "Programs and Functions" (I'm not sure
about the name "Programs and functions" since I have a Finnish version of W7).

Could you please explain in more details "modify the settings to ignore this
update"? I couldn't find any option to permanently deny the installation of
this update. I don't want to uncheck the checkbox every day.

best regards, ykä

Re: How to avoid Office Genuine Advantage Notification -tool (KB94

Hi,

The situation is now even worse. Today I got two updates for MS-Office:
KB949810 and KB981715 (7,4 M8). Is there any way to permanently prevent these
updates?
