How do you colour the mouse pointer?

F

I have WindowsXP SP3

I have a larger screen and I use the largest pointer
available in Microsoft Mouse.

Is there any way to colour it bright yellow (like tennis
balls) to make it more visible?

Right click on your desktop and choose Personalize from the menu a new window will open and in there will be an option called Mouse Pointers on the Pointers Tab the 3D Bronze scheme has a bright yellow pointer, go through the list though you might find one you like better. Hope that helps

Thanks, I found something in the Microsoft Mouse dialogues.
"Show the position of the mouse when the ctrl key is
pressed."

It gives a transient bullseye to show where it is.

I checked it out and it works. Though the pointer is rather
small. I've gone for yellow.

Use an icon editor to open the file of the cursor you want to use and color
it anything you want. You can also use the editor to make your own - any
size, any shape - or to enlarge the existing one.

Cursor files are in Windows/cursors.

Where is icon editor?

How can I set/create a picture or graphic of mine as an icon and apply it to
programs? Do I need a certain size or will it fit the size automatically? I'v
had problems with my Microsoft Zune not fitting the graphics for my mp3's.
But I'v also had this problem with other programs.

Thank you.

If you don't mind buying one, Microangelo is good.

You can turn a graphic into an icon with many - but not all - icon editors
but it won't work very well because icons are small, graphics big so the
resulting icon is usually unrecognizable. Much better to just make your own
icons or download them from the internet.

You decide on the icon size when you make it...from 16x16 pixels up to
(IIRC) 256x256.

Thanks. I have "Axialis" icon editor, but all the
Windows/Cursor/*.* have a file extension of *.cur.

How can I change *.cur to *.ico?

Have you tried just opening a cursor file with your program? Manyt will.
You can also open cursor files with numerous graphic programs - including
IrfanView - and save them as ico, jpg, bmp, etc. However, you may not be
able to get it back to cursor format.

The main difference between an icon and a cursor is the "hot spot" in a
cursor. The hot spot of a cursor is the pixel location that Windows sends
to a program as a user moves the cursor or clicks a mouse button. For
example, the hot spot pixel of an arrow cursor would be the pixel location
at the "point" of the arrow. Editors that will handle cursors let you
select the hot spot.

If your program won't do cursors, check out this...
