Help re Picture and Fax Viewer

W

Walter R.

Flightless Bird
Using Windows XP SP3.

Normally I view photos in the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

I switched to ACDSee as my photo editing program and now all jpg files open
in that program, instead of in the Windows Picture Viewer.

How can I restore Windows Picture and Fax Viewer as the default jpg file
viewer?

I looked in all the Help files but could not find the answer.

Thank you.

Right click on a saved jpg and Open With | Choose Program. Select Windows
Picture and Fax Viewer and then check the box: Always use this program to
open this kind of file.

From the Help: (using "open with" as a search including the quotation
marks)

To associate a file with a program
Open My Computer.
Double-click a drive or folder.
Right-click a file, and then click Open With. If Open With is not
available, click Open.
Follow the instructions under the option that matches the dialog box
you see:

Thank you. That worked on a one-time basis. However, the next time I open
the same file or another jpg file by double-clicking the file, it opens in
ACDSee again, instead of the Fax Viewer.

Is there a way of changing it permanently so that all jpgs will open in the
Windows Viewer?

If you checked the box "Always use this program to open this kind of
file.", as suggested by Bruce Hagen, then ACDSee is changing the
association.

Look in ACDSee and at its web site for instructions on dis-associating
the filetype with ACDSee.

To restore the "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" to default,

open the Run box and enter:

%WinDir\System32\regsvr32.exe %WinDir\System32\shimgvw.dll

This only works:

%WinDir%\System32\regsvr32.exe %WinDir%\System32\shimgvw.dl
