Help, my browser has been hijacked!

M

Michelle

Flightless Bird
When I click links from a google search, my browser is redirected to other
sites places like 'Ask' and 'Kelkoo' and other shopping and comparison
sites.

I have spent HOURS running whole system scans using:
AVG (found nothing while scanning, but uncovered 3 'Trojans' while Defender
was running)
Windows Defender (This scan triggered the above 3)
Spybot - twice (found 69 problems on the first run, then after reboot, no
problems, apparently)

But I'm still getting redirected.

Please help, my computer is my work and also a part of my social life. I'm
at the end of my rope, no idea what to do now.

Thank you

M

Go to add/remove programs and remove the Ask tool bar and anything else
you find there with the word "Ask".

Flightless Bird
run a freeware called
"hijack this".

the log it produces will
likely show those references
you mentioned usually at the
very top of the list.

simply check them off and
click on fix.

A novice should not be using hijackthis on their own.

To the OP, keep the crossposting to a minimum, you went a bit overboard.
Download and run malwarebytes and see what it finds.

perhaps, you're right.

but the o.p. has the right
to know about the utility
and has the right to use
it,

regardless of the adverse
opinions people may have
about the o.p.

Michelle,
Brute force solution.
Run System Restore and take your OS back to a date prior to the infection.

He also can expect to be assisted and not advised to do things that could
cause him to make the problem worse. Why did you not inform him he could
format his hard drive? Doesn't he have the right to know about that?

OPs post indicate being unexperienced.
Giving advices closing the eyes is no help
and is kind of adverse.
If you're a professional and want to help.
Then you should post a result of using
Carlos advice.

also, since you presume

then use your smart ass

I'll do whatever I like and you can't do anything other than to top post
your drivel and get called on it by more people than me, chum.

I've never seen an answer from you that wasn't incoherent babbling or just
plain wrong.

The reply I would expect from someone as clueless as you that gets called
out on bad advise.
I don't create threads, I have no problems I haven't been able to solve on
my own.
And replying to threads is not hijacking, have a clue what your talking
about before you make yourself look like an idiot.

He makes up for it by setting his line length under 30 characters. I
find his posts way too hard to read - like watching a speeded-up tennis
video - so I have no idea what the quality of his posts is. At least
until the last few in this thread :)
