July 4th is Independence Day in the United States. It became an unpaid holiday for federal employees in 1870. The Congress of 1938 changed this to a paid holiday. The Declaration of Independence was approved on July 4, 1776 after two days of debates. Historians debate whether this declaration was signed July 4 or August 2. Both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson wrote they signed on July 4, 1776. Both Adams and Jefferson died on July 4, 1826. James Monroe, another founding father, died July 4, 1831. As a tradition, I look for the movie musical 1776 - "most happy-lee, certain - lee"
