Windows 7 Home Premium OEM (in U.S.A.).

What's with all the whacky fonts? Many look identical to
others, with odd-sounding names, like "Iskoola Pota".

Basically, why so many fonts in the basic install?

Might look identical in the A..Z a..z 0..9 ranges, but not for other glyphs

They are mostly to deal with foreign languages. You can always back up
then delete the ones you will never use. Bear in mind that they might
show up in a web page or NG posting sometime. Some interesting Korean
showed up in a technet group the other day. Of course, if you don't
speak the language, it doesn't really matter.
