Google stealing search bar

Google unsolicitly stole my address bar so that every attempt to go to aURL
goes through Google. I like Google, but not that much. How can I undo this
travesty?

Given all the detail you provided, not even my psychic adviser can help
you. However, if you're having a problem with Google, how about
contacting Google?

Be sure to ask them "How can I undo this travesty?" and let us know what
they say.

Do you have Google Toolbar installed? If so, remove it ...

My home page was provided by Verizon, and it has a Google Toolbar. I have
tried to disable the Toolbar. All my attempts through managing Add-ons, etc
don't work, which is why I posted the question. This "new" behavior of going
to Google whenever I put a URL in the address box seems to have just started
recently. If Google can do it, so can anybody else who sends their weenies
to MS's classes. I want to know how to fix Internet Explorer, not the world
of avid advertisers or data miners.

How do you know that Google has manipulated your browser?
It is more likely that Verizon has done it.
And you can try another browser to see if it is affected as well.

Are you sure you're not putting the address into a search box? Maybe you
can provide a screen shot somewhere? I've never heard of Google hijacking a
browser. This doesn't sound right unless you've installed something you
don't know about, or are actually inputting the data in the wrong place.

Opps! I think KCB got it right - the URL I used contained the link to
Google. But it wasn't evident in the address. I'll try to delete the post..

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; WinXP 64-bit SP2;
Vista SP1; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 64-bit) as well as your IE version
when posting in an IE-specific forum or newsgroup. Please do so in your next
reply.

Hi Brian..Had a similar Google problem and believe me, I empathize!
Unfortunately I have to blame myself. I have Gmail and like it so much,
thought making Google my home page was a good idea. *NOT !!! * When I
tried to get rid of it, Google still grabbed my address bar which
prompted a battle between my IE browser and Google which repeatedly
redirectd it until I just gave up an closed my internet connection! It
was wild. My advice is to make sure you remove EVERYTHING you can find
on your system that says Google (except Gmail) or you may never get rid
of it...Hope your problem is already solved..Good Luck :)

CoolJoeGirl, you said

"My advice is to make sure you remove EVERYTHING you can find

Good advice! Several years ago Microsoft was regularly accused of trying to
"take over the world". Today, Google's tentacles reach out everywhere and
make MS look like benign pikers.

I still use Google as my search engine, and Google Earth but constantly
fight off Google's efforts to get into every nook and cranny of my computer.
Beware, they are relentless.

He replied earlier that it was (his) user error.
