I have been hearing all of this bad stuff about winXP not working and being
slow and win7 working perfect which seems kinda weird to me cause i was
planning on getting this

Wouldn't worry about the side-tracks and I wouldn't over-complicate
things...

If the drivers are available from the hardware manufacturers web site for
each of the parts for Windows XP (you know what they are in detail - since
you gave details) then it is supported in Windows XP. If the manufacturers
do not choose to provide drivers for their hardware for Windows XP (their
perogative) then it is not supported in WIndows XP.

Despite what you might have believed up until now and/or what rumors/stories
you have heard - support for a hardware device in an Operating System is not
usually determined by the manufacturer of the operating system - but by the
manufacturers of the hardware device. They either provide drivers/support
for a given OS or they do not. So look up your components, see if they list
Windows XP as being supported and discover for yourself your answer. ;-)

I would say the list here, looks just as good for WinXP as it does for
Vista or Windows 7. It's the Win2K/2003 support that is a bit thin.
And Win2K ended extended support phase in July 2010. In some ways,
you can kinda predict when new drivers will dry up, based on the
drop dead date defined by Microsoft for the OS. And for WinXP, that
is 2014 or so. If you're buying a MA785GM-US2H today, you should be
able to use it with WinXP.

Personally, I'm a bit more worried about how Microsoft will handle
DirectX, and how long I'll be able to install and test new 3D games
on my computer. I expect that to screw up before 2014, just like
they screwed Win2K before its time. Games were coming out with
hard coded checks for WinXP, just so you couldn't run them
on Win2K. Once the hard coded check was "commented out" with
a hex editor, the game would run. That's the kind of BS I'm
expecting before 2014 arrives.

In terms of driver support versus OS, the network drivers for
Ethernet chips have to be the best. You can still find support
for OSes like Win98 on a lot of Ethernet chip drivers, while
things like built-in graphics or add-in video cards tends to
follow the Microsoft life cycle pretty precisely. As soon as
Microsoft isn't interested in an OS, NVidia and ATI can drop
support too. For some reason, networking chips tend to
support dead OSes as well as live ones.

You can even occasionally find a motherboard that supports
an older OS. I was able to install Win98SE on this and
Device Manager was clean. The OS would only use one core
of the processor, but it was still pretty snappy performance
wise. I had to use an older AGP video card to be able
to do that. I doubt my new PCI Express video card has
a Win98 driver :-(
