Fresh Win7, IE8 no connect with firewall enabled ...

R

Installed a fresh install of Windows7 (no upgrade), enabled windows firewall
and allowed program through firewall and I am unable to connect. When
firewall is disabled, IE connects. Something in windows firewall blocking but
I cannot find it. What am I missing?

Did you format the HDD prior to installing Win7?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current?

Do other applications connect?

Are you connecting via dial-up, cable, ADSL, satellite, or wireless internet
USB modem? Is a router involved?

Why can’t I connect to the Internet?

What is a "fresh install"?

There are two ways to install Windows 7: An 'upgrade' installs Windows 7
over an existing copy of Windows; a 'custom install' installs Windows 7
on a formatted hard disk.

Windows Firewall is enabled by default in Windows 7. Why did you have to
enable it manually?

Brand new drive. Everything else works, Firefox as we speak. Firewall enabled
as in "outbound connections". Re-read my original post.

In a custom install of Windows 7 on a blank, formatted hard drive,
Windows Firewall is enabled by default. There is nothing to enable.

If you discovered that Windows Firewall was disabled, and so you had to
enable it yourself, there is more to the story.

Using Microsoft Security Essentials download. Everything else works. IE never
worked unless I turn off MS firewall.

What Leonard said.

How long was the computer connected to the internet before MSE was installed
& updated?

What part of "IE connects with MS firewall off, no connection when on"
requires so much beating around the bush? I obviously have encountered some
very unique situation. I have a business environment with TMG2010 firewall
and all flavours of desktops (including W7).

I will try things out on the forum you suggested. Thanks

If a third-party firewall is enabled, you don't want the Windows Firewall
enabled! Speak with your Admin or Tech Support department.
