Folder File list disappears.......

I have what might be a unique situation, or perhaps one I've just not
seen reported in these forums before. I've just re-installed WinXP on
my main notebook. Given the number of apps that had to be reinstalled,
and the various specialized drivers that were needed, I'm not certain
exactly when this problem began, but nonetheless.....

Not always, but often, when I double click to open a folder, the folder
opens, I can see the file list, but then the folder screen clears. If I
leave it as such (and often there seems to be no other option) the files
refresh after a short time. It's both frustrating and elusive. I've
tried different mouse. I've removed and re-installed the mouse drivers,
etc.

I'm hopeful that someone here has seen this behavior before and, more to
the point, can offer a solution.

I KNOW I can start from scratch again, but I'm hoping to avoid another
three or four days of installing and tweaks.

Thanks for any help anyone might be able to provide.

Might be malware or a virus. Does the problem persist when booting into Safe
Mode?

Kelly has a tweak to stop that, or reenable the "feature" at her site:

Line 157. Prevent Automatic Folder and Icon Refresh - Enable

Might be your anti-virus file scanner slowing the refresh down. Had it, on a
regular basis with CA that's free to Road Runner users. Verified by turning
the scanner off and on. Recently installed XP on a different HDD and went
with MS Security Essentials. No system slow down now.

Don't recall if it had the refresh problem but went from the same CA version
to SE on another computer and the system was much faster.

Thanks. Probably just what I want/need. Unfortunately, Kelly s site
reports "Service Unavailable"! I don't suppose you have a copy of
the tweak?

Joe,

Check that! The site is back. Tweak downloaded and applied! Problem
solved. I really appreciate your taking the time to respond. That
folder behavior was really irritating!

Thanks again.
