Flushing bad karma from an aborted update?

I have XP Pro SP2 on my laptop. I was downloading and installing some
updates the other on a public WiFi system when I had to shut down and
get home. There were like 11 updates; five or six had downloaded and
installed, but I had to click Cancel in the middle of downloading.

Later, when I turned mu computer back on (no WiFi available, so no
network), and it took forever to boot. When it finally did, I tried
to view an MPG4 video with QuickTime and it hung up bad. No CTRL-ALT-
DEL to end anything, no start menu for shutdown - nothing. So I held
the power button to kill it, then restarted in safe mode. Sure
enough, the last process listed is the agp440.

I used Start-Run and entered CHKDSK /F /R and rebooted, then rebooted
again after it ran. Stupid me, I tried the video again and hung
again. Lather, rinse, repeat - and delete the video and uninstall QT!

The only thing I think of is the aborted updates and some bad karma
left on my machine somewhere. Is there a good way to flush this out
if (and when!!) my machine hangs again?

It's not bad Karma
If it was what did your computer do in it's past life to deserve this?

It's probably because you stopped during an Update
and thus caused some issues.

First IMO it's a good idea to never interrupt an update.
Second if this does happen again
Go into "SAFE" mode "F8" on start up
and try recovery mode
to restore your system to a known working condition.

If Karma was true, The world would be full of people who wanted to do good.
and the evil people would be punished not raised up by evil.
As it is, Evil get's rewarded and good get punished....

1. Why hasn't WinXP SP3 been installed by now?

Extended Support for WinXP SP2 ends on 10 July 2010. After that date,
computers running WinXP SP2 will NOT be offered any further critical
security updates, Automatic Updates will not work, and Windows Update
website will not be accessible until SP3 is installed.

2. For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY
(and/or 1-866-234-6020 and/or 1-800-936-5700) in the United States and in
Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. There is no-charge
for support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call,
clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the

Thanks! I've actually never tried that before. Don't know why.
Probably just like most users, I guess . . .

Usually I don't interrupt updates. Thought this one wasn't going to
be a problem - 5 miutes, according to the dialog. But when the House
Commander calls, I must go . . .

That's on my list of things to do, right after I get a back-up drive.
And as soon as I find those detailed instructions you very nicely gave
