After a crash and recovery, I am unable to open and edit most documents
(labled now as read-only) and then when I can edit, I am restricted in
saving? What do I need to do?

crash and recovery? You mean you reinstalled your applications? Did you
activate those applications? You mean you restored backed up documents
from CDs? Select the documents and then r-click on them and select
properties and UNcheck "Read-only". If that doesn't fix the problem,
tell us what actually transpired.
