I am having the same problem as stated below, (VISTA, IE but the answer is too complicated for me and this site http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/redxorg.htm (When you click the Organize Favorites submenu under Favorites menu, the Organize Favorites dialog opens, but a Red X mark may be present where the Favorites list is to be displayed. Resolution Fix for Internet Explorer 7 and above Download ieframe-fix.zip, unzip and run the enclosed REG file. The REG file restores the missing/incorrect values in the following registry location: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ CLSID \ {55136805-B2DE-11D1-B9F2-00A0C98BC547} Fix for Internet Explorer 6 does not work for me in Vista IE 8 ( I can't get it to unzip). If I could get a simpler answer, I would appreciate it "Alan Edwards" <edwards@southcom.com.au> wrote in message news:2e4ak5d05l1a6jvgo0jmdm983ushg31f0t@4ax.com... > In what operating system? > > Try this and see if it helps: > You can change the value of Favorites in the Registry in these > two keys: (ignore the second if the value is not there) > > HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell > Folders > > HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User > Shell Folders > > For Windows 2000/XP: > [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User > Shell Folders] > Set the Favorites path to : %USERPROFILE%\Favorites > > > The above should be a REG_EXPAND_SZ value, not REG_SZ > > > Ref: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFAQ.htm#favorites > http://windowsxp.mvps.org/usershellfolders.htm > > > > ...Alan > -- > Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows -Internet Explorer > http://dts-l.com/index.htm > > On Wed, 6 Jan 2010 12:10:01 -0800, in > microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general, musiclover > <musiclover@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > >>in vista, suddenly favorites are gone because the location of the >>favorites >>file is wrong! the good old favorites file is still there in documents, >>but >>the path listed for favorites in IE is a non-existent folder in my 'music' >>folder. so favorites comes up empty in the IE menu. >>somehow it got changed. how do i tell IE7 (IE8 would not install on this >>computer) where it's 'favorites' folder is? this should be the default >>location, but where can i set it to that?i
