Favorites bar in List of Favorites

I have Windows XP Pro fully updated and IE8.

I am continually getting a folder "Favorites Bar" re-appearing in my
drop-down list of Favorites (folders) no matter how many times I have
deleted it. It may be relevant that the Favorites Bar is not ticked in the
list of Toolbars. This is very irritating. How should I stop this item
from re-appearing in the list of favorites please?

Thanks.

Hi,
Internet Explorer will continue to recreate this folder.
Your options are:
1. Ignore the folder ;-)
2. If you are not normally able to see hidden files/folders, you can set the
Favorites Bar to be hidden.
From Control Panel> Folder Options> View, select "Do not show hidden files
and folders."
Browse (Windows Explorer) to C:/Documents and Settings\your account
name\Favorites. Right-click the Favorites Bar folder> Properties> select
"Hidden"> click OK.

Hope this helps,

Hold down mouse key on the folder and drag it to bottom of the list
where it will not be so intrusive.

Remove the Folder Bar in IE8, Windows XP SP3.

To remove permanently the Favorites Bar on IE8 you need to set up a GPO policy:
(1) Close all instances of Internet Explorer 8.
(2) Start -> Run -> type in gpedit.msc
(3) Go to: User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer
(4) Double-click "Turn off Favorites bar" and click "Enabled".
(5) Start -> Run -> type in cmd
(6) In the DOS box type gpupdate /force (space between e and /)

If you open IE8 you will find the Favorites bar in the toolbar greyed out and Add to Favorites bar is no longer present in the Favorites menu.
You can delete the Favorites bar and it will never return.

If you don't find the "Internet Explorer" template, try the following:
(1) In gpedit.msc, View- > Filter -> unselect all checkboxes.
(2) If filter is already off and you still have no template for Internet Explorer try to add it.
Right click Administrative Templates and select Add/Remove Template.
In the next window click Add and select inetres.adm and close the window.

Too bad your advice got turned into spam by using a pretend forum that
leeches into Usenet via forum-to-NNTP gateway and that appends their
spam into the body of your posts.
