Facebook and TwitterUsers Differ

Robert Heiny

David John Hughes and colleagues report that Facebook and Twitter users have opposite reasons for logging into these sites.

They surveyed 300 people online about personality characteristics and preferences.

Among other findings, people who scored higher in "need for cognition" tended to use Twitter. By contrast, Those who use Facebook scored higher in sociability, neuroticism, and extroversion.

Said another way, Facebook is more social and Twitter appeals more to those exchanging information.

How do these data match your observations?
