How long have you waited for the installs to finish before overriding
and killing things?

I have had a couple upgrades in the past that took over 15 minutes
before the first update was finished and the second began. True it was
on my older and slower computer so things like that were expected.

You might need to check the log files and see what, if anything, is
failing during the upgrade process.

You might get more specific assistance from others if you provided a
list of the updates in the order your system is trying to install them,
or at least the first one.

Did you ever let it finish installing those updates? If not, what
you're seeing is mostly normal.

What a stupid fucking MORON. Nobody in their right mind wants to use that
SHITTY Ubuntu. Just FYI. By the way, you are from the wrong planet to
close threads! Just FYI. All you are good for is running sentences
together and tapping your foot in the men's room at the airport looking for
Gay Republican Sex. Just FYI.

Why does it wait until you shutdown to do the fucking updates?
THAT pisses me off because I'm leaving, Not hanging around 15 minutes
for a shutdown.

You can do them manually at anytime, have them automatically run at some
preset time (default is 3am) or at shutdown.

It's looking to do them at shutdown as a "last resort".

You can also skip the shutdown menu in it's entirety and do a quick shutdown
by issuing the following command (with admin privs) shutdown.exe /f /r /t 01

Evidently the /r causes a reboot instead of a shutdown.

You don't need to hang around for a a second. Just leave it alone and it
will switch off all by itself. If you don't like this behaviour, open
control panel, and select Windows Update, and change the settings so that it
behaves exactly how you like it. There are a lot of things wrong with
Windows 7, but this is not one of them.

Oops! You are correct. That's what happens when muscle memory kicks in and
overrides intention. I use "/r" often when doing server maintenance.

What I meant to use was "/s" for shutdown.
