I'm gettint the following error in event viewer:

The driver has detected that device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 has predicted that
it will fail. Immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk
drive. A failure may be imminent.

This is a WD SATA HHD. I ran an extended test with WD Data Lifeguard
Diagnostics and found no errors. I've disabled the S.M.A.R.T feature and
re-enabled it. I still get this error.

This hard drive is less than 30 days old. I know its good.

My question - isn't there a registry hack to disable this event?

Check on WD's site in their faq section and see if there is a known
(non)-problem with this particular series of drives. They may have a fix for
it.

As an aside, I have seen drives less than 30 days old fail for various
reasons, so that's not an impossible scenario :)

Umm, if you're still getting that error, you should heed its advice and get
another hard drive to replace this one with. You should still be under
warranty so it shouldn't cost you anything; just talk to wherever you bought
it; you have a valid need to have the drive exchanged.
Turning off SMART notifications is also foolhardy, as is ignoring the
advice to back up your important data NOW! If that's too much work for you,
then you deserve whatever is going to happen within the next second, minute,
day, week, whatever. You have been warned.
Experience tells me that you will suffer a premature drive failure. That
fact that it's less than 30 days old in reality means the drive hasn't yet
passed the infant mortality rate for use in your system. It does NOT mean
that the drive HAS to be good!

It's your choice of course, whatever you decide to do; but you should be
able to get that drive changed out for free on warranty unless you bought
the machine sidewise somehow.

I also forgot to mention that I'm getting the same error occasionally with
my second hard drive which is a Maxtor. I haven't checked it with a
diagnostic program yet, but this leads me to thing its a system problem -
NOT a hard drive problem.
