For some unknown reason, I have started to get an extreme amount of errors on
one of my win-xp pro systems. I keep seeing EVENT ID 490:

Event Type: Error

Event Category: General
Event ID: 490
Date: 3/15/2010
Time: 11:23:04 PM
User: N/A
Computer: NAUJAS
Description:
svchost (1236) An attempt to open the file
"C:/WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot2\{127D0A1D-4EF2-11D1-8608-00C04FC295EE}\catdb"
for read / write access failed with system error 32 (0x00000020): "The

Any suggestions as to what is causing this???

No useful ideas until you do this first:

To eliminate questions and guessing, please provide additional
information about your system.

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

msinfo32

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select
All, Copy and then paste the information back here.

There will be some personal information (like System Name and User
Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just
delete it from the pasted information.

Perform some scans for malicious software, then fix any remaining
issues:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware
detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if desired.
