Energy Drinks May Lead To Emergency Room Visit Or Worse

The energy drink consumption among teens has increased. According to a government report cited on HP but not linked, emergency room visits due to the consumption of the drink has doubled to 20,000 per year in 2011.

The report doesn't specify which symptoms brought people to the emergency room, but it calls energy drink consumption a "rising public health problem" that can cause insomnia, nervousness, headache, fast heartbeat and seizures that are severe enough to require emergency care.

Which is wiser, exercise and good rest or an energy drink? The winner is you - if you choose exercise and rest. Skip the energy drink and listen to your body.

Update: It appears this is an AP wire story. USA Today has the same story.

In 2011, sales volume for energy drinks rose by almost 17% , with the top three companies — Monster, Red Bull and Rockstar — each logging double-digit gains, Beverage Digest found.
