Embedded PDF object in web page: OneNote is launching and opening PDFs at the same time as Adobe Rea

I have a Windows 2008 Server machine with Office 2007, Adobe Reader 9, and
IE8 installed. When opening a web page with an embedded PDF control (using
<object> tag and Adobe Reader's CLASSID) in IE8, the PDF appears properly in
the Adobe PDF control embedded in the web page, but at the same time,
OneNote launches separately and opens the same PDF. How do we stop OneNote
from doing this?

We have XP Pro machines with Office 2007, Reader 9, IE8 that do not exhibit
this behavior.

You should look at the file association for PDF files.

I checked Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate a File Type... and
..pdf is associated with Adobe Reader 9.3, nothing else.

What does that mean exactly (what happens really) when
"OneNote launches ... and opens the same PDF" ?

OneNote is no PDF reader ...

Not sure how to make it clearer... IE8 displays the PDF in the embedded
object window on the HTML page as it should, and simultaneously OneNote
starts up as a new process with the same PDF displayed within it. In a
separate process, just as if I went to Start > Programs > Microsoft Office >
OneNote and opened the PDF file.

Sorry, I don't understand what you are talking about.
Onenote cannot open/read PDF files. Period.

Can you give some more information about the PDF and where it is stored?
Does it only happen to one particular PDF or to all PDFs? If you go to a
random web page and download a PDF, does it happen then or only with web
pages you create and where you have manually entered the CLASS tag, etc.?

The PDF is being dynamically created on a web server. This only happens on
PDF's we create and are embedded with the class tag.

If you go to a random web page and download a PDF, Acrobat Reader opens as
it should. OneNote does not open.

We have some javascript in our page with the embedded PDF object that
automatically calls the print method. "Send to OneNote 2007" was set as the
default printer. Problem solved!

That would explain it ;) Glad you got it sorted out.
