I realise this question is way off topic but can some one help me.
My email notifications don't work even though I have enable them. In order
to get them to work, I understand that I beed to have my email verified by
this site or microsoft or somebody, I don't understand who. I tried the
contact us buttons at the bottom of this page to find some help but get
nowhere.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks, Jim

You will get a far better experience of newsgroups if you use a proper
newsreader instead of that slow and quirky web interface you are
using.

Yes. Toward a decent newsreader and away from the web interface you're using
now. Don't jump through any hoops trying to get email notification to work.
It doesn't. Period. No sense wasting your time on it because it's not
broken at your end.

This is about the PowerPoint group specifically, but the same advice and info
applies equally to ALL of the Microsoft newsgroups.

OK. I've set up a newsreader subscriptions in OE and can read the posts.
Now, Three stupid questions. What does synchronizing do and how do I send a
new message to a groups Also, I assume "reply to sender" does just that.
what does "reply to group" do?

Thanks, Jim

It posts your message to these newsgroups so that nutters/pimp like
Peter Foldes and vagrant like JPaules (or whatever) can deal with it
and reply appropriately when they are not copulating.

It's been too long since I last used OE ... I'll let someone with something
resembling a clue tackle the first two. But ...

OE can send your reply either to the person to whom you're responding or to the
entire newsgroup. For replies to newsgroup posts, GROUP is the way to go.

Most people will post messages to newsgroups using a munged email address in order
to foil spammers, so reply to sender will as often as not send your reply off into
the etherneverneverland.

Oh, and please don't feed the troll.

I fumbled in to the answer about posting a new message. Simply click on the
newsgroup and then click "create mail" And, what does "don't feed the
troll" mean?

Don't respond to idiots who patrol the news groups looking for people to
either make fun of, or try to make feel stupid with condescending answers
meant to demean the questioner.

Yeh. I googled it and found the answer. I've noticed some immature posts
while reading the threads in this and other newsgroups. I'm sure they think
nobody knows what they're up to.
Thanks for the reply.
