Done, but with errors on page

I am consistently getting this error when loading certain web pages
(www.google.ca; www.mts.net, amongst others) as a particular user.

Running:

Windows XP Pro sp3 with all updates as of April 12
Internet Explorer 8 again with updates as of April 12

The XP machine has 3 local users.
When I log in as User1 I get the error on certain web pages--the web page
will then not fully load and is therefore useless.
However, when I log in as any of the other users I can browse those same web
pages with no problem.

Have googled for the problem and can find nothing that fixes the issue.

Downloaded FireFox and it appears to hang (displays a Transferring data
from.. message and a processing icon) when I am running it as User1 on those
same pages that IE reports errors on.

Disabling Windows Firewall and virus program (Avast) did not solve the
problem

Checked the Internet properties and they are the same for all three users.
(Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) and Disable Script Debugging
(Other) are both selected; Display a notiication about every script error is
not selected).

Any suggestions as to where to start troubleshooting short of deleting User1
and recreating him and seeing what happens??

Thanks

Hi,

Your probably going through a proxy at work. Both sites are using google
adsence.

google.ca is also using DOM Storage, you may have turned it off on the
Advanced tab of Internet Options. Google have been experimenting with some
of their regional sites. Try loading google.ca in their Chromium browser. Ha
Ha!

The "done with errors" message in the status bar is usually nothing to worry
about. Google.ca is on the MS compatibility list, but they (google) have
recently added the IE8 emulation meta tag to some of their sites. This does
not affect IE8 though which will honor the new IE emulation directive and
not flip back to IE7 emulation.

Check your userAgent string at enhanceie/ua.aspx. It may be corrupted and
these sites are using UA sniffing. When you see the "done with errors"
warning, double click on the Warning icon in the Status bar. You can then
copy and paste the full details of the message here to better inform us.

Regards.

1. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode?

=> Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode [Applies to IE7 &
IE8 in all OSS]
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

2. Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

3. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running
in the background when you installed IE8?

4. Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

1. Yes, the behaviour persists if I run IE in no add ons mode.
2. Yes, the behaviour persists after resetting IE Advanced settings
3. Avast anti-virus is running and Windows Firewall is running. They
were both running when IE 8 was installed
4. Norton/McAfee have never been installed on this machine.

The problem existed with IE 7. After being unable to fix it with IE7 I
uninstalled IE7 and installed IE8 to see if that would do anything.

What really has me stumped is that when I log on as a different user, IE
runs fine. Worse case I could either delete the single user, or try just
deleting his profile and see what happens.

Thanks

Downgrading/upgrading in hopes of resolving an existing problem is seldom a
wise idea. I presume the behavior persisted in IE6 after having uninstalled
IE7 & before installing IE8.

The User Account in question may be infected with hijackware.

NB: If you had no anti-virus application installed or the subscription had
expired *when the machine first got infected* and/or your subscription has
since expired and/or the machine's not been kept fully-patched at Windows
Update, don't waste your time with any of the below: Format & reinstall
Windows. A Repair Install will NOT help!

Microsoft PCSafety provides home users (only) with no-charge support in
dealing with malware infections such as viruses, spyware (including unwanted
software), and adware.
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&prid=7552&st=1

Also available via the Consumer Security Support home page:
https://consumersecuritysupport.microsoft.com/

Otherwise...

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

NB: Run the FULL scan, not the QUICK scan! You may need to download the
MSRT on a non-infected machine, then transfer MRT.EXE to the infected
machine and rename it to SCAN.EXE before running it.

2a. WinXP => Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan (only!)
in Safe Mode with Networking, if need be:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

2b. Vista or Win7=> Run this scan instead:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm

3. Now run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting requested logs
in an appropriate forum, not here. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP!!

Checking for/Help with Hijackware:

**Chances are you will need to seek expert assistance in
http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?board=10.0,
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/viewforum.php?f=5,
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/cleanup,
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30 or other appropriate forums.**

If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) computer repair shop.
