Does IE8 still not have autocomplete or autofill ?

Last year I upgraded to IE8 but didn't like it because it no longer
had a drop down of previously-entered data on the user ID tab on a
website. For example, my user ID for my local library's webpage is
lengthy but once it was entered, in the future I would just have to
tab into the form field and hit the down arrow and the entire number
would appear for me to click on. IE8 didn't seem to do that, so I did
a system restore and got my IE7 back. Does anyone know if they ever
added that feature to IE8? Some web pages I go to aren't supported by
IE7 anymore so I am considering upgrading again.

Internet Explorer has it' own group for trouble shooting.

Have never seen the dropdown ID in IE8. Perhaps more secure???? Why use a
long ID?

1. Never, EVER use System Restore to "undo" an update, Service Pack, or IE
upgrade! Instead, uninstall the update, Service Pack, or IE upgrade &
reboot. If that doesn't correct the problem, then try System Restore.

2. IE8's Smart Address Bar had not changed and will not be changed.
WYSIWYG.

3. Autofill is a function associated with (an older version of?) Google
Toolbar. AutoComplete in IE8 works just like it did in IE7 and earlier.

Why not just save the library's home page to the Favorites menu and rename
it the name of the library? Something like "10th St. Library"

I'm not talking about autocomplete in the address bar. I am talking
about autocomplete on a form field within a website, like where you
type in your user ID.

First you sat 'never ever' use System Restore then you say if uninstall
doesn't correct try System Restore HUH?
Auto fill does NOT work for ID's in IE8.

Oh for crying out loud....

I asked "What webpages might they be?" in response to your initially
stating :

"Some web pages I go to aren't supported by IE7 anymore...."

So I *still* ask you : What webpages might they be? (i.e. that do not
display correctly).

About that question: "Which websites" (do not display normally)....

I asked the OP [Jeff] because I still love and use IE6 and had *big*
problems with the You-Tube website....

Their site detected I was using IE6 and blocked videos from playing in that
browser - insisting that I must upgrade to a newer browser.

I thought this a bit like [needless] bullying.

And it did indeed turn out to be needless, as, after I installed Google
Chrome, as long as I have ONE instance of Chrome active, videos WILL now
play normally in the IE6 browser again!!!

So much for IE6 not being able to handle their content - they deliberately
wrote code into their web-pages to block my IE6 browser - FOR NO GOOD
REASON!!

Perhaps You-Tube are being paid to do this by Chrome/Firefox ?!

I am fully aware of that, but since IE9 is near final release, I thought
perhaps that IE7 may have been subject to the same blocking measures by
certain sites (including, of course You-Tube).

The "banner" that appears in You-Tube, telling you that you have a
less-than-up-to-date browser, goes on to advocate a number of "acceptable"
alternatives....

These "acceptable" alternatives, include :

Google Chrome
Mozilla Firefox
Internet Explorer 8
Opera 9
Apple Safari

You will please note that IE7 is NOT among the list - ONLY Internet
Explorer 8!!

Okay so I'M WRONG ABOUT IE9!!!! Satisfied?

But all you "nit-pickers" just love focusing on the one point that isn't
THE point of what I was saying!!!

That's how all these petty arguments that plague these groups are started.

The ONLY thing of importance I was saying was : that IE7 was NOT among the
list of acceptable browsers that the You-Tube website was trying (forcibly)
to advocate one switching to - ONLY Internet Explorer 8 was on that list!!!

==

Cheers, Tim Meddick, Peckham, London. :)

P.S. The list of "acceptable" browsers according to You-Tube :

Google Chrome
Mozilla Firefox
Internet Explorer 8
Opera 9
Apple Safari

....and Robear, please don't imply I am a dope smoker - it is not worthy of
you.
