Are you kidding? Someone will always respond and the entertainment value is

Reinstalled the HD5850 graphics card with the latest Win7 drivers
installed the latest Win7 driver for the monitor.
Tried every possible resolution available via the cards Catalyst Control
Centre and via Windows display properties (just in case there is some weird
difference).
Re-sync the monitor (instructed by Viewsonic), changed HDMI cable, even
tried the DVI cable option.

I am thinking this is a driver problem, it's got to be, but AMD/ATI are not
being very forthcoming about this. I think am going to try a different
graphics card maybe later today see if that does the trick
