Disable autoplay of video, audio on websites

Does anyone know how to disable auto play of video (utube, etc), audio or
related application when visiting a website? IE8/Vista/Windows 7.

People still don't get it. No one wants an OBTRUSIVE experience online. No
dancing ads... no popups.. no auto queries when you accidentally roll your
mouse over a double-line... no auto play of anything when surfing on the net.

Hello bradtrader,

I have no clue where I can find, in Windows, the settings to do that, but I
just opened my registry-editor and removed most all extensions under the
"HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type" subkey. Pretty-much the
only ones I left where a few image-references (gif, bmp, jpg, png). You
might choose to only remove the offensive file-types though.

By the way : You could install a HTTP proxy (I'm using Proxomitron) myself,
and set up rules (regular expressions) to eradicate any-and-everything you
dislike (Proxomitron even enables you to freeze gif-animations).

Regards,
