Device install error

I have an xp machine I am doing a repair install on, and during the
graphical/second part of the repair install (with 34 minutes left), it
gives me the message "Device install error - Could not load installer
for .Net". There seems no option to bypass this message and continue
with the repair install. Any suggestions as to what I can do about it
to finish the repair install? Thanks.

Ah, the famous 34 minutes installation error (which Google is fully aware
of): http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;828267

Yes, I did to google the problem, but I used the "Device install error"
message instead of the "34 minutes installation error" and not much
helpful info came up. Thanks for your suggestion, I will give this a try.

You need to be a little less restrictive when googling. Placing double
quotes around your search string is often useful but it can also defy the
intelligence that Google has placed into the search engine. Try putting the
following words into a search box, without quotes, to see what I mean:

Windows installation 34 minutes

An experienced human would know immediately what this is all about. So does
Google . . .
