Hi,

We have a large number of laptops in a school which are all running XP pro
and run as standalone systems with various programs on them. The users
(mainly children) have a habit of deleteing desktop program icons, moving
them around and renaming them ! What's the best way to prevent all the above
happening !

Many thanks.

Jason...
The Deep Freeze program recommended by Pegasus is practically the "industry
standard" in situations similar to yours. See http://www.faronics.com
Note the developer has various editions available together with
trial/evaluation editions. It's worth looking into.

While I don't think it would apply in your environment because you mention
the PC users are mainly children, another system used is to provide each
user with their own removable HDD so that any changes to the OS,
configurations, etc. that the user could make would be *only* confined to
that specific drive/system. This latter system has been used to good effect
in a couple of community colleges where I've taught. Naturally the basic
system has to be set up to accommodate removable HDDs.
