Cross posting

Is there any way I can filter out cross-posts.
I don't want to see any posts from other groups, especially linux ones.
I just want to see posts from people who post to alt.windows7.general only.
I'm using Windows Live Mail but would change and pay for a news client that
had this feature.
Anyone know if this is possible?
Thanks.

Doesn't seem possible in WLM by cross-posting.

But XPN can do it, and is free
http://xpn.altervista.org/index-en.html

IN scoring and action rules, create an action rule that filters on
Xref...add comp.os.linux.advocacy and any other dweeb infested group you
find despicable, and kill it.

I highlight them red...they are good for funny insults.

You can do this in Thunderbird v3 also. Create a custom filter on
"Newsgroups" and specify alt.usenet.kooks and others.. cuts down on a
significant amount of background noise.

Thanks for the info, trying XPN now. Will have a go with Thunderbird
later.

I've set up a filter in Thunderbird but I can't get it to work.
I have tried making a filter for Giganews (and one for
alt.windows7.general.)
I've made the custom filter on 'Newsgroups'(and also tried 'newsgroups').
The condition is 'Match any of the following' 'Newsgroups' 'contains'
'alt.usenet.kooks' 'Delete message'.

Under Tools 'Run filters on folder' is always greyed-out and selecting
'Run filters on message' does nothing.

Any idea on what I'm doing wrong ?
Thanks.

Sounds right. Is this TB v3?

Chose "Customize..." and added "Newsgroups" (w/o quotes) in the
"Customize Headers" dialog box? Mine currently looks like this:
http://home.earthlink.net/~bblanton2/Tbirdfilter.jpg

It was "Newsgroups" but I have since changed it to "Xref". It seems to
be faster this way. (Thanks Death).

My "Run filters on folders" is grayed out also. (just noticed). If you
highlight all the messages, the "Run filter on message" menuitem will
change to "Run filter on selected messages".

You might also try rebuilding the index after you get the filters set
up. Do a r-click > properties on the group. That will download all the
headers again and run the filters again. Seems to sort things out
better. (I'm finding this TBird v3 somewhat buggy in some regards)
