Creation & Modified dates of photos

Upgraded to Win 7 last October and have noticed that the "Creation" and
"Modified" dates are interchanged when viewing PROPERTIES. Furthermore, when
I copy the photos to a backup location, the ACTUAL "Creation" date displays
as "Modified" and the "Created" and "Viewed" dates appear as the date of the
actual date of the copy transfer. This sure creates confusion when archiving
family photos. Any Idea what I could be doing wrong, and how can I correct
this problem. John

I pay no attention to those dates myself. I store all my photo files
(several thousand of them) in subdirectories with the date and some
indication of subject matter in the subdir names. Also, if they are
digital photos the exposure date should be in the EXIF data. If you
aren't familiar with EXIF, Google is your friend.

You didn't do anything wrong, it's always been like that as far as I am
aware.
Very confusing, you'd think that they could word that a bit better, like
'original date' and 'modified date' or something intelligent.

I take squazillions of photographs and after I have converted the images
from RAW, they get a short name, then get filed in appropriate folders, with
names that are easy to find :)

That's exactly how I do it. Each subfolder is named with the year and
month (to facilitate sorting), followed by a few keywords related to
the subject.

Thanks for your inputs. I have been storing all digital photos in folders
containing 24 photos. I wrote VBA code which places the thumbnail photos in
a 4 X 6 array into EXCEL along with the appropriate photo number and
"Created Date" beneath each thumbnail. This allows me to print the 24
thumbnails on standard paper which are then placed in a binder. Very easy
referencing. These dates are the TRUE creation date. No problem. But when I
view the PROPERTY of the stored photos I was alarmed about the fact that all
my photos are "Modified" before they were even "Created". Again, thanks for
your combined inputs.
