When I first saw the post about Cox eliminating Newsgroup access, I didn't
take it too seriously, but I should have seen the signs. You can blame that
on a momentary lack of logic on my part. I just thought that since we
haven't gotten any notifications from Cox, that it may be a regional thing.
I started getting the notifications two days ago now. According to Cox,
they are removing Usenet access across the board to ALL of their customers.
Their excuse is that UseNet is taking resources that can best be used in
other areas. They are promoting Giganews and have made a deal with them to
provide UseNet access for at whopping 10 % discount for Cox subscribers
after a 2 month special for only 2.95 or something like that. I don't know
about the rest of this group, but flaming and trolling aside, I do patrol
UseNet for a lot of information I use to fix my computers when something
goes wrong. I also use it to access a few special interest groups. The
"interest groups" can be accessed in forums too, but again, I don't like the
way they display. (Guess, I'm an old fart and like things the way they
are.) I looked at Google Groups, which is free, and have checked out a
couple other sites that looked at first to be something I might be able to
use, but there really isn't anything that I have seen that comes close to
the ease of use of programs like WLM. Does anybody here have any ideas on a
decent program, site, or anything that might allow access to UseNet that
will provide similar look as Outlook Express or WLM? I'm expecting not and
I realize this is off topic, but I still thought I would ask.
