I have customised the columns in windows explorer to show about six or seven columns of data. However, when I open a folder it shows only one column, with a slider along the bottom which allows me to see a further couple of columns. Most of the space is taken up by the "preview area", and I can see all the columns by moving the vertical line on the left of this area to the right. It will stay in this position when I change folders or files; if I then close explorer, next time I open it it's back to showing one column. Is there any way to make it remember the way I close it? I'd like to keep the preview area, as it's sometimes useful, I'd just prefer it to be narrower. Obviously, there's not a lot of effort involved in moving the line to the right, it's just an annoyance which I'd rather be without.
