CNN and the Southern Republican Leadership Conference Republican Debate

Sometimes we think of political debates as boxing matches - but what happens when everything is so blurry that we cannot tell what is really happening?

Tonight's debate between four Republican candidates may get heated between two of them - Dr. Gingrich and Willard Romney. Mr. Romney had a comfortable lead until Monday night's debate and has been stumbling since the brouhaha about his tax returns. Worse, the official numbers for the Iowa caucus do not have him as the winner. In contrast, Gingrich has been on an upward trend since his "no apologies" statements on Monday night. More important, Mr. Perry has dropped out of the race, leaving Dr. G to pick up those votes.

We'll be watching tonight's debate and looking to see whether any of the candidates is able to knock out one of the other candidates.

I watched the "debates" twice and have come to the conclusion that Dr. Gingrich's anger about the first question being about his alleged desire for an open marriage was planned. It was red meat for the audience and he simply never answered the question. He's good at not answering.
