Chrome is always starting in a normal window

L

LouB

Flightless Bird
Chrome is always starting in a normal window BUT until now it started
maximized, which is what I want.
I had NOT changed anything.
I have now tried changinging startup to normal and back to maximized but
no joy.

What the hell is going on??

All you had to do was close the window in the same state you want it to
open.
For example if you have multiple chrome windows open and the last one you
close is not maximized, it will remember the state of that window and open
it again in the same sized frame.
Just reopen the app, maximize it and close it again. Then you are good.

Well I did that a mere 7 times and it did not work.

You could also right-click on the desktop icon and choose properties,
then by run select "maximized". Then whenever you started Chrome it
would always be maximized regardless of the window state it was in when
previously closed.

What app are you using?

Here's the info on the api from MSDN.

Remarks
This sample illustrates how to save the size, location, and state of a
Window so the Window opens in the same position it was closed. Furthermore,
this sample is multi-monitor aware, which means that if the monitor on which
the Window was closed is disconnected, the Window is shown on a connected
monitor instead.

This requires using the following Win32 APIs (from User32.dll):

WINDOWPLACEMENT: To store window size, location, and state (see
WINDOWPLACEMENT Structure).

GetWindowPlacement: To retrieve the current WINDOWPLACEMENT data for the
window before it closes (see GetWindowPlacement Function).

SetWindowPlacement: To restore the WINDOWPLACEMENT data when the window
opens (see SetWindowPlacement Function).

The WINDOWPLACEMENT structure is physically stored on disk using the
Microsoft .NET Framework support for strongly-typed application settings
(see Application Settings Overview).

Seriously though, Lou,
I can reproduce this behavior at will on Win7 ultimate 32.
Windows has worked this way as far back as I can recall.
I don't know why it doesn't do it on your machine. It SHOULD recall window
size, position, monitor displayed on etc.

Agree completely, which is why I posted the original post.
And then it went back to doing what it always has, Eerie:))

Just remembered something from the past (quick, mark that on the calendar
that the old man remembered something =D). Start browser, open another
window with a link on original, drag second window to wanted size by
grabbing at edge until it's the full size of monitor (do not use expand
button), close original window, close second window by clicking the icon in
the top-left corner and selecting close. Next time you open browser it
should be full-screen.

That thing where windows do auto-maximise when they are shoved
to the screen top (blooming annoying I reckon) is in fact a setting so
if the bloke has it turned off your excellent suggestion might not work.
