A mate changed his display settings on his XP machine but chose a setting
too high for the card/monitor. Now the display is all gobbledegook..he wants
to revert to a lower setting but can't view anything on the screen! How does
he access and change his screen display settings?

Reboot the machine, start in "safe mode". Change the resolution back to the
native resolution of the monitor while in safe mode. Reboot the computer.

Maybe doing a System Restore from
Safe Mode would be worth a try.
